Electronic chemicals, or simply chemicals for the electronics industry, generally refer to semiconductors and printed circuit boards (PCBs). However, in practice, this definition also includes semiconductors, semiconductor processing chemicals, and semiconductor packaging materials.

Semiconductor processing chemicals include specialty gases, wet chemicals, photoresists, thin-film metals, and CMP slurries.
Classification of electronic chemicals
There are many types of electronic chemicals used today. They include specialty chemicals used in the production of integrated circuits or silicon chips, such as silicon wafers, natural and specialty gases, photoresists, auxiliary chemicals, wet process chemicals, CMP slurries, thin-film metals, as well as new chemicals and materials like copper plating.
The categories of electronic chemicals include:
• Common gases: nitrogen, oxygen, argon, helium, and hydrogen.
• Dopant gases: arsine, phosphine, boron trichloride, boron trifluoride, and diborane.
• Etchant gases: boron trichloride, chlorine, chlorine trifluoride, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, nitrogen trifluoride, silicon tetrafluoride, sulfur hexafluoride, tetrafluoromethane, trifluoromethane, difluoromethane, fluoromethane, hexafluoroethane, pentafluoroethane, octafluoropropane, and octafluorocyclobutane.
• Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) chemicals: silane, dichlorosilane, trichlorosilane, silicon tetrachloride, disilane, tetraethyl orthosilicate, silicon tetrafluoride, methylsilane, germane, ammonia, nitrous oxide, and tungsten hexafluoride.
• Wet chemicals: acetic acid, acetone, ammonium fluoride, ammonium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and sulfuric acid.
